The 50kw Rapid Chargers are funded by the North East's plugged in places programme Charge your Car and installed by SWITCH EV's VINCI Energies engineers. The rapid chargers can recharge cars such as the Nissan LEAF, Peugeot iOn and Mitsubishi i-MiEV to up to 80% of their capacity in 20–30 minutes. This is compared to the 8 hours for a full charge using a standard 3kw charge point.
